Google Business Profile optimization for small businesses
Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a local customer sees. Optimizing it means accurate details, the right categories and services, real photos, a clear description, a working booking or contact link and an honest approach to reviews. Nobody can guarantee rankings, but a complete and accurate profile gives both Google and your customers what they need.
Why accurate information matters
If your hours, phone number or booking link are wrong, customers lose time and trust. Your name, address or service area, phone number and hours should match across your Google profile, your website and your Instagram. Mismatches confuse both clients and search systems.
Categories and services
Choose the primary category that best matches your main service, and add secondary categories only if they are true. List the services you actually offer, in plain words, with accurate descriptions. Accurate categories help Google show your business to people searching for what you really do.
Photos and your business description
- Use real photos of your work and your space, not stock images.
- Pick a clear logo and cover photo that match your website and Instagram.
- Write a short, factual description of what you offer and who you serve. Don't stuff keywords.
- Use your real-world business name. Adding extra keywords to the name goes against Google's guidelines.
Review best practices
- Make it easy to leave a review by sharing your direct review link.
- Ask customers after a good experience, and reply politely to every review, positive or negative.
- Never buy, fake or trade incentives for reviews. Google prohibits them.
- Don't ask only your happiest customers for reviews. Google's policies discourage selectively soliciting positive reviews.
Booking links
Where it applies, your profile can include a booking or appointment link. Make sure it goes to a page that works well on a phone and shows the right service. If your website's booking or contact section is unclear, fix that too. See website refresh.
Local visibility
Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. You can't control distance, but you can make your profile as relevant and complete as possible and keep it consistent with the rest of your online presence.

Frequently asked questions
Can you guarantee my business will rank first on Google?
No. Nobody can. I can help make your profile accurate, complete and consistent, which is the part you can control.
Do I need a storefront address?
Google has different rules for businesses with a public address and businesses that travel to clients. I'll help you set up whichever applies to you.
How long until I see changes?
Edits can take time to appear, and results vary. I can't promise a timeline.
Can you write reviews for my business?
No. Reviews must come from real customers. I can help you ask for them and reply to them.
Do I need to give you ownership?
No. You should stay the owner. I work through access you grant, which you can remove at any time.
